French President Emmanuel Macron has been revealed to be an active user of the Telegram messenger, despite the recent arrest of its founder, Pavel Durov.
Pavel Durov's Arrest
Telegram founder and TON blockchain pioneer, Pavel Durov, was detained by French police at Le Bourget airport in northern Paris last Saturday. Durov was arrested shortly after his private jet landed on the basis of a warrant related to violations concerning the Telegram messenger.
Macron's Use of Telegram
According to Politico, the Telegram messenger is widely used among politicians and media figures, including French President Emmanuel Macron. On Monday, when Pavel Durov was in police custody, Macron was seen 'recently connected' on Telegram. A former member of parliament stated that Macron began using the messenger at the start of his first presidential campaign.
Reasons for Pavel Durov's Arrest
French judicial authorities explained Durov's arrest by an investigation into the lack of content moderation on Telegram. According to the investigation, the messenger has not been sufficiently cooperative with law enforcement on issues related to drug trafficking, child pornography, and fraud. Telegram, in turn, has denied the accusations of insufficient content moderation.
Despite Pavel Durov's arrest by French authorities, French President Emmanuel Macron continues to actively use Telegram, highlighting the important role this messenger plays in the political and public life of the country.
