Enhancing Security in the Ton Blockchain with Signer App
Tonkeeper, known for providing non-custodial wallets for the Ton blockchain, has recently introduced the Signer application, offering enhanced security measures for users' crypto assets.
The unveiling of the Signer app by Tonkeeper targets the prevalent security concerns related to private key management, particularly highlighted in recent cyber breaches.
Through the implementation of the Signer app, which securely stores and manages private keys, Tonkeeper endeavors to reduce vulnerabilities to exploits similar to the notable $10 million Li.Fi drain incident.
In a discussion with Cointelegraph, Daniel Cawrey, the chief strategy officer at Tonkeeper, elaborated on the added security layer that app users can benefit from to mitigate risks like theft, scams, or erroneous transactions.
Strengthening Crypto Asset Security
As per a press release shared on Cointelegraph, the Signer app empowers Tonkeeper users to enhance the security of their private keys.
Cawrey highlighted that by encrypting private keys within Signer and storing them externally from the wallet, the protection against theft or accidental transactions is notably enhanced.
In Cawrey's words,
"Our goal is to protect users from falling victim to scams or mishandling private keys, a pitfall that many early adopters have faced."
Dual Modes, Varied Security
The latest Tonkeeper app offers users the choice between two in-app modes to cater to their preferences.
The convenience mode allows users to seamlessly pair Signer with the Tonkeeper wallet app on a single device, streamlining transaction signing.
On the other hand, the maximum security mode enables users to conduct transactions on a separate offline device, known as "air-gapped," ensuring internet-free operations for signing QR-code transactions.
To promote safety for newcomers in the crypto space, Cawrey suggested that new users securely store their seed phrases to prevent loss or negligence.
Cawrey emphasized,
"Even veteran users in this field have erred by casually storing or losing private keys, resulting in incorrect transactions."
Introduction of the New Ton Smart Wallet Standard
In collaboration with Tonkeeper, the Ton Core team introduced the W5 smart wallet standard on July 25, designed to facilitate gasless transactions on The Open Network (TON) blockchain.
This upgrade allows users to utilize Tether (USDT) for gas fees in USDT transfers and Notcoin for gas fees in Notcoin transfers.
