Launched 10 years ago, Ethereum continues to evolve and face new challenges in light of the development of other blockchains.
A Decade of Dominance and New Challenges
Ethereum has undergone significant evolution over the last decade, particularly with its shift from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake consensus.
However, with the increasing number of users and applications operating on its base, Ethereum has faced scalability issues.
Change in Governance and Protocol Upgrades
In 2025, the Ethereum Foundation made significant changes to its governance structure.
The Pectra upgrade, consisting of hard forks, was released in May, significantly improving scalability and user experience.
"I think the big focus now is on interop and improving user experience," said Tomasz Stańczak, co-executive director of EF.
Optimism on the Horizon: Looking to the Future of Ethereum
At EthCC, participants expressed optimism about Ethereum's future, grounding their views in utility and analytical data.
"If Ethereum plays well to its strengths, it can remain the best settlement layer," added Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon.
Despite challenges, Ethereum still holds a leading position in the blockchain market due to its active development and adaptation to new conditions.
