Ethereum has recently attracted significant attention from institutional investors, opening new horizons for its use and valuation.
Unprecedented Changes in Ethereum Ownership
According to a recent report from Standard Chartered, institutional treasuries currently hold around 1% of Ethereum’s total circulating supply. The bank suggests that this figure could grow tenfold, with businesses eventually holding up to 10% of ETH's total supply.
Ethereum Compared to Bitcoin
There is a rising interest in corporate Ethereum purchases and increasing inflows into spot Ethereum ETFs. The rising interest is believed to have contributed to Ethereum outperforming Bitcoin recently, as the ETH/BTC ratio increased from 0.018 in April to 0.032 in July. Standard Chartered analyst Geoff Kendrick notes that this could signal the start of a significant shift in institutional preferences.
Price Prospects for Ethereum
Ethereum briefly crossed the $3,900 mark on Monday, reaching its highest value since December 2024. Standard Chartered maintains its price target of $4,000 for Ethereum, while other analysts expect it to break its previous all-time high of $4,800 this year.
Ethereum is quickly becoming more than a digital asset and is now a long-term strategic play. The token is currently trading at $3,853, down 0.7% in the last 24 hours.
