Ethereum Considering Raising Gas Limit to 150 Million in Fusaka Update

Ethereum is preparing for a significant upgrade called Fusaka, which may see the gas limit raised to 150 million.

Main Proposal of the Upgrade

The change proposed in EIP-9678, introduced by Sophia Gold from the Ethereum Foundation on April 23, suggests increasing the current gas limit. This proposal was discussed at the recent Ethereum developer meeting.

Impact on Development Efforts

At the All Core Devs Execution (ACDE) meeting, developer Tim Beiko emphasized the importance of the gas limit increase as a flagship feature of the Fusaka release. He remarked that this unconventional proposal follows the path of other precedent-setting initiatives, like EIP-7840.

Future of the Fusaka Upgrade

As testing progresses, developers anticipate the need for additional EIPs to support the increased gas throughput. This may lead to an expansion of the Fusaka upgrade's scope, despite initial plans.

The planned increase in the gas limit is part of ongoing efforts to improve Layer 1 performance and solidify Ethereum's position in the increasingly competitive smart contract landscape.
