Federico Carrone, an Ethereum developer, announced a significant increase in his donation for Roman Storm's legal fund to $500,000 after a personal experience in Turkey.
Support Through Increased Donation
In a post on X, Carrone stated that his decision to increase his donation was influenced by his detention by Turkish authorities for 24 hours over alleged links to an Ethereum privacy protocol. "After what happened to me, I need to take a clear position," he said.
Charges Against Roman Storm
Roman Storm, one of the co-founders of Tornado Cash, was indicted in 2023 on charges related to money laundering, conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitter, and conspiracy to violate US sanctions. A New York jury found Storm guilty of conspiracy to operate an unlicensed money transmitter, while deadlocking on the other two charges.
Current Fundraising Status
Storm set a goal of $7 million for his legal defense, which could extend into December or longer. As of Tuesday, a federal judge signed off on an agreement to extend deadlines that could affect a potential retrial.
Federico Carrone's support for Roman Storm highlights the importance of individual defense for developers amid growing legal challenges in the crypto industry.
