Ethereum Reaches 1 Million Validators Milestone with Increase in Staking

Mar 28, 2024

The Ethereum network has achieved a significant milestone with one million active validators and over 32 million ETH worth $114 billion staked in the market. Despite the rise in validators, concerns have been raised within the Ethereum community regarding potential challenges associated with this development.

According to data from the Dune Analytics dashboard, Ethereum hit the one million validators mark with over 12.06 million ETH flowing through the network. Notably, Lido is the leading staking method, holding 30.17% of the total market share. Following Lido, Coinbase and Binance are also popular staking options, with 4.5 million and 1.2 million ETH staked, respectively.

Venture Capitalist Evan Van Ness shared this achievement, generating responses from various stakeholders and enthusiasts in the crypto community. Nova Dash CEO Gabriel Weide raised concerns about transaction failures due to an excess number of validators, while Pete Kim of Coinbase noted the artificially inflated number of validators due to the 32 ETH market cap.

As the network continues to grow, Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum's co-founder, proposed measures to improve decentralization by penalizing network validators based on their average failure rate. This milestone adds to the blockchain's success following its latest upgrade, with Lido disclosing over 30 million ETH locked in the platform in February 2024.
