Evolution of Decentralized RPCs in the Polkadot Ecosystem

Jun 11, 2024

SubQuery Network, a notable provider of Web3 infrastructure, has recently revealed two innovative decentralized Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs) tailored for the Polkadot ecosystem. These RPCs are compatible with Polkadot and Kusama, representing a groundbreaking introduction of decentralized RPCs within Substrate-based networks.

SubQuery operates a globally distributed network comprising decentralized indexers and RPC providers, supporting an extensive array of over 200 networks. Through this network, distributed applications (dapps) can efficiently access blockchain data without the necessity of centralized access points.

RPCs play a critical role in blockchain technology by bridging the communication gap between external entities and blockchain nodes. They facilitate essential functions such as data retrieval, smart contract execution, and transaction processing. The deployment of SubQuery's decentralized RPCs enhances accessibility and security for developers within the Polkadot and Kusama networks.

James Bayly, serving as the COO of SubQuery, expressed great satisfaction in introducing decentralized RPCs for Polkadot on the SubQuery Network. By utilizing these decentralized RPC nodes, developers working on Polkadot and Kusama can significantly decrease their reliance on centralized middleware, thereby reducing associated risks.

The operational effectiveness of blockchain projects is significantly bolstered by the newly unveiled Polkadot RPCs, managed collectively by a consortium of over 30 independent Node Operators. These RPCs facilitate data access from a diverse range of sources.

SubQuery Network's decentralized RPCs are pivotal in ensuring secure and efficient communication within the web3 ecosystem, which is crucial for enabling the smooth operations of Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePINs).

Initially concentrating on Polkadot, SubQuery initially provided an indexer designed for Polkadot's multi-chain structure. However, the company has since expanded its scope to encompass numerous networks, aiming to establish leadership in Web3 data and infrastructure.
