The Special Committee of JAMB has unveiled alarming statistics of cheating cases during the recent UTME 2025, showcasing the use of high technology for deception.
Investigation Findings
The Chairman of the Special Committee on Examination Infractions, Dr. Jake Epelle, reported 192 cases of AI-assisted cheating and 4,251 instances of finger blending uncovered during the recent national UTME 2025 examination.
Cheating Methods
Dr. Epelle described that among the methods employed were impersonation through image manipulation and improper testing practices. For example, two individuals—a candidate and a paid impersonator—could have their fingerprints verified for system recognition.
Recommendations and Measures
The committee presented recommendations including strict penalties for fraudulent centers and candidates. They also emphasized cultural reorientation to ensure parents and students understand the importance of adhering to ethical standards.
The recent UTME 2025 has highlighted alarming trends in examination rule violations through the use of high technology, underscoring the need for strict preventive measures.
