Binance CEO Richard Teng has revealed details about a new scam targeting crypto investors and offered safety measures.
Overview of the Scam
Teng reported that scammers are calling users posing as official Binance customer service representatives. They attempt to persuade users to alter their API settings under the pretext of a 'security update.' This allows attackers to gain access to user accounts and steal funds directly.
Binance's Security Recommendations
Binance emphasizes that it does not request passwords or security information over the phone. Users are advised to carefully manage API permissions and verify any suspicious activities through official support channels.
General Fraud Prevention Tips
Experts recommend using two-factor authentication (2FA), Passkey, and enabling strong security settings. If a suspicious call is received, users are advised to immediately revoke API keys and temporarily freeze their accounts.
As the popularity of cryptocurrency markets grows, incidents of cyber fraud are on the rise. Binance urges users to remain vigilant and use only official communication channels.
