Federal Jury Convicts Remy St. Felix in Multi-State Crypto Crimes

A federal jury in Greensboro, North Carolina, found Remy St. Felix guilty of orchestrating a series of violent home invasions with the intention of pilfering victims' cryptocurrencies. St. Felix, a 24-year-old resident of West Palm Beach, Florida, faced a litany of charges including conspiracy, kidnapping, Hobbs Act robbery, wire fraud, and the use of firearms in the execution of crypto-related offenses.

The verdict against St. Felix, announced on June 25, emerged after a trial that brought to light his pivotal role in an international syndicate bent on targeting American citizens to seize their digital assets.

According to a statement from Sandra J. Hairstone, U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina, the victims endured harrowing ordeals at the hands of St. Felix and his associates who were driven by sheer avarice, terrorizing their selected targets without remorse or compassion.

Court documents and trial testimonies unveiled a string of home invasions that spanned several states, encompassing North Carolina, Florida, Texas, and New York. From December 2022 to July 2023, St. Felix's criminal network resorted to physical violence, abductions, and coercion to compel their prey into providing access to and transferring their cryptocurrency assets to the perpetrators.

A poignant episode occurred on April 12, 2023, when St. Felix and Elmer Ruben Castro forcefully entered a residence, restrained the occupants with zip ties, and demanded entry into their crypto accounts.

The investigative task force, spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Charlotte Field Office with support from multiple field offices and local law enforcement agencies, unraveled the intricate web of deceit woven by St. Felix and his cohorts. Despite their sophisticated money-laundering tactics and encrypted communications to obfuscate their activities, the authorities managed to untangle the crime syndicate's operations, apprehend the culprits, and ensure they faced justice.

Reflecting on the successful conviction, Executive Assistant Director Timothy Langan of the FBI's Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch emphasized the significance of the outcome as a deterrent to others contemplating engaging in similar nefarious pursuits.
