Former FTX executive Ryan Salame has withdrawn his attempt to retract his guilty plea. This comes amid charges against his partner Michelle Bond for campaign finance violations.

Case Circumstances

Ryan Salame had previously sought to withdraw his plea agreement, claiming that prosecutors had promised not to charge his partner Michelle Bond in exchange for his plea. The defendant alleged that the plea agreement was secured under false pretenses, as Bond was indicted on August 22 for alleged violations related to her 2022 congressional campaign.

Continuation of Court Proceedings

Despite the withdrawal, Judge Lewis Kaplan will still proceed with hearing Salame's original petition on September 12. Prosecutors rejected Salame's claims, stating that there was no agreement to halt any investigations into Bond and described his assertion as "demonstrably false." Salame is set to begin serving his sentence on October 13 after a short delay due to health complications. Bond has pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on $1 million bail and was ordered, like Salame, to forfeit her travel documents.

Future Implications

Salame and Bond still remain under investigation for misappropriation of FTX funds. Both face significant legal issues related to Bond's unsuccessful congressional campaign.

Ryan Salame's case continues. The court proceedings will proceed despite his withdrawal of the motion to retract his guilty plea.
