Franklin Templeton Launches Ethereum ETF on DTCC Platform

Apr 27, 2024

Franklin Templeton has introduced its Ethereum exchange-traded fund (ETF), known as the “Franklin Ethereum TR Ethereum ETF,” with the ticker code EZET. The ETF has been listed on the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC) website, allowing for creation and redemption as part of its operational rollout process. Despite DTCC listing, the approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is still pending. Franklin Templeton had filed a Form S-1 with the SEC in February for launching a spot Ether (ETH) ETF. The SEC has delayed its decision on the application, extending the review period until June 11. Industry giants like BlackRock, Grayscale, VanEck, and ARK Invest are also in the race to secure approval for their Ethereum-based ETFs. The approval prospects for Ether ETFs differ from Bitcoin ETFs, which were approved earlier. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas projected a 35% likelihood of approving the spot Ether ETF in May. The final approval might be influenced by SEC Chair Gary Gensler's views on Ether.
