Swiss-based company Freename AG announced the closure of its $6.5 million Series A funding round. This step indicates strong investor support for the company's goals related to integrating traditional and blockchain domain ecosystems.
Investments and Freename's Strengths
The round was led by Entrée Capital and included contributions from companies such as Polymorphic Capital, Blockchain Founders Fund, and other angel investors like Aaron Schnarch and the Rashwan family office. Freename also previously raised $2.5 million in a seed round in September 2023.
Plans for Series A Capital Usage
The funds will be directed towards implementing innovations such as creating a resolution protocol integrated with DNS providers and other technologies to enhance user engagement. Freename also plans to expand its services to international markets and ensure regulatory compliance.
Challenges and Growth Prospects
Freename faces competition, including from Unstoppable Domains, but aims to establish itself as a standard for secure and programmable digital identities across both Web2 and Web3. Main challenges include user education, reducing onboarding friction, and navigating complex regulatory environments.
The investment obtained by Freename allows the company to advance towards its goal of creating a universal domain name system capable of enhancing user experiences in the decentralized internet.
