FTX Estate Reportedly Sells $1.9B Worth of Solana (SOL) to Settle Debts

Apr 6, 2024
  • About $7.5 billion worth of 41 million locked-up SOL are held by the FTX estate.
  • The major assets owned by FTX were SOL, with a smaller portion consisting of BTC, ETH, and APT.

In an attempt to resolve the existing debts of the now defunct cryptocurrency exchange, the FTX estate sold off SOL tokens valued at approximately $1.9 billion.

In reference to information from Bloomberg and individuals familiar with the situation, the FTX estate sold off almost two-thirds of the SOL batch. The lot consisted of up to 30 million SOL, each valued at $64. The tokens are currently locked, delaying their sale, which is the reason for the reduced price.

Increased Buyer Interest

FTX's estate is holding nearly $7.5 billion worth of 41 million locked-up SOL. As of the present time, SOL is being traded at $176.54, a 3.47% decrease in the last 24 hours as reported by CoinMarketCap.

There was substantial interest from buyers, leading to a postponed auction of FTX estate's SOL, as reported by Bloomberg. Galaxy Trading, a division of Galaxy Digital, expressed interest and had established a $620 million fund to purchase SOL from FTX.

Following FTX's insolvency in November 2022, investors were eager to claim a share of the company's Solana assets. The primary assets held by FTX were Solana, with a smaller portion allocated to bitcoin, ether, and APT.

With 20% of the batch set to unlock in March 2025, Neptune Digital, a digital asset company, acquired 26,964 SOL at $64 each for a total of $1.73 million, as previously disclosed. Additionally, Pantera had initiated a $250 million fund in March to purchase discounted Solana from the FTX estate.
