Google Cloud's Introduction of New Web3 Portal

Apr 28, 2024

The launch of a new Web3 portal by Google Cloud provides resources for blockchain developers, such as training on data clusters and NFT creation. However, this release has caused some debate within the cryptocurrency industry. Phil Geiger, who is the Vice President of Product Marketing at Unchained, criticized Google for not focusing on Bitcoin.

Amid these discussions, crypto investor and analyst MartyParty mentioned that he was not concerned about Google falling behind. On the other hand, other crypto experts positively received the portal launch. Ivaibi Festo, the founder of Mitroplus Laboratories, praised the Web3 portal as a significant resource in a recent post.

According to the details on the website, developers can utilize various products to test decentralized applications on Ethereum test networks like Sepolia and Holesky, and experiment with test network tokens. Additionally, they have access to a training program covering NFT development, Web3 loyalty programs implementation, and securing crypto assets through multi-party computation. This action follows Google's recent expansions in the Web3 sector.

In recent times, Google has broadened its capabilities to enable users to track wallet balances across multiple blockchain networks, including Bitcoin, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Polygon, and Fantom. At the beginning of 2024, Google adjusted its policies to permit advertising certain crypto products, such as Bitcoin exchange-traded funds, on major search engines.

During 2023, Google seemed focused on establishing partnerships in anticipation of this year's portal launch. In October 2023, Google Cloud's BigQuery data storage protocol integrated with MultiversX, enabling Web3 projects and users to leverage powerful data analysis and artificial intelligence tools from Google Cloud.

Just a month earlier, in September 2023, Google's BigQuery included 11 blockchain networks in its data protocol. Some of the new additions comprised Avalanche, Arbitrum, Cronos, Ethereum's Görli test network, and others.
