Innovative Crypto Game Contender for Emmy Award

Jun 14, 2024

Uniswap Labs is poised to potentially secure the crypto industry's first Emmy Award through its recent acquisition of Crypto: The Game (CTG). This online survival game has garnered significant popularity among dedicated gamers and is being considered for an Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Emerging Media Program category. CTG adopts a TV reality show format where ten 'tribes' comprising 80 players each compete in daily 'immunity challenges' to survive, which include tasks like arcade games and digital scavenger hunts.

Unveiling the Gameplay

CTG participants pay 0.1 Ether to join the game, with the final survivor claiming the entry money pot after a 10% deduction to sustain the game's operations. Eliminated tribes must vote out members, while players can earn personal immunity by sharing about their gameplay on social media. On the concluding day, previously ousted players vote for one of the final two survivors. The game cycle lasts for ten days and unfolds in real-time on the Base blockchain. Enthusiasts engage with the game through platforms like X and Farcaster, along with a dedicated podcast.

CTG was launched in January and is gearing up to commence its third season. Season 1 awarded a prize of approximately $150,000, with the season 2 victor pocketing $274,000 amidst Ethereum's price surge. Season 2 contenders swiftly purchased the non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for entry within 15 minutes. Players have the option to trade their NFTs, with the buyer inheriting their game position.

Key developer Dylan Abruscato conveyed to Fortune that CTG participants are drawn from the crypto community, including influencers and market stakeholders, as well as a segment of 'normies' with minimal crypto exposure.

Uniswap Ventures into CTG Realm

Uniswap Labs acquired CTG on June 11, just before the Emmy nomination announcements. Known for its Ethereum-based decentralized exchange, Uniswap Labs procured CTG along with the development team to oversee season 3 and develop interactive ventures for the crypto community. The acquisition details, including financial transactions and equity exchange, have not been disclosed.

CTG contends against virtual reality experiences, Verizon's Catch My iPhone game, the Billboard Music Awards, and projects involving notable figures like Eli Roth, Jean-Michel Jarre, Lucy Liu, and Wallace & Gromit for a spot in the Emmy contest. Voting by peer group members will persist until June 25, culminating in the selection of the winners.

On June 12, Solana ventured into a new market segment by launching its customer loyalty marketing service, Bond.
