Joby Aviation has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Blade Air Mobility, known for its urban air transportation business model. Under the deal, Joby will gain Blade's passenger business, while its MediMobility medical division will remain separate and operate as a public company.
Joby's Development in Air Taxis
Joby Aviation is considered one of the leading players in the urban air mobility sector. The company has already acquired the Xwing Autonomy Division to develop unmanned air taxis and has ambitious plans for deployment. Joby is also gaining access to Blade’s critical infrastructure, including ground hubs in New York City and Southern Europe.
Joby's Military Collaboration and Commercial Plans
Joby Aviation has partnered with L3Harris Technologies to develop a hybrid VTOL for logistics and military purposes. Initial demonstrations of this new class of aircraft are expected to begin in 2026. The commercial rollout of Joby's air taxis is planned for the first half of 2026, with initial passengers expected to operate in Dubai.
