Jupiter has released a report indicating a malicious browser extension 'Bull Checker' that has drained funds from Solana users' wallets. The extension was targeting users on Solana-related subreddits.
Jupiter Flags 'Bull Checker'
Pseudonymous Jupiter founder Meow mentioned in an X post that a team from the platform spent long hours trying to uncover the root cause of attacks on Solana DeFi users. They discovered that 'Bull Checker' was targeting Reddit users interested in Solana. According to the report, users with this extension interacted with dApps normally but had their tokens potentially moved to another wallet upon transaction completion. No vulnerabilities were found in any dapps or wallets.
Meow's Advisory
Meow advised that only one malicious extension has been identified so far, but there could be other extensions impacting users. He recommended uninstalling any extensions with permissions to read and change data on all sites. Meow also reminded users that just because something gains popularity on Reddit does not make it safe to use.
Solana Market Situation
Following the report's release, the prices of Solana meme coins like DogWifHat (WIF) and BONK have seen significant drops. The price of Solana (SOL) also fell by 15% over the past month, trading at an average of $147.11. Trading volume has increased by 10%, reaching $2.29 billion over the last 24 hours.
Users are advised to be cautious when installing browser extensions and to remove those with extensive permissions. Maintaining the security of digital wallets and being aware of potential threats is crucial in the face of increasing cyberattacks.
