Kaia, a layer-1 blockchain created by leading Asian social messaging apps, launched its mainnet and introduced mini-apps on the LINE platform.
Kaia Mainnet Launch
The Kaia mainnet was launched on August 29. The blockchain supports processing speeds of approximately one second and has extremely low transaction fees, as stated by the Kaia DLT Foundation in a blog post.
Integration with LINE App
Alongside the mainnet launch, the project introduced Kaika Wave — a program for developers to create decentralized applications (mini DApps) that will work with the LINE messaging app. The two apps, LINE and Kakao, have a combined user base of over 250 million people concentrated in South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia.
Competition with Telegram
Details on what mini DApps will debut on LINE have not been shared, but the project follows its competitor Telegram, which launched similar Mini Apps last year. These mini-apps include to-do lists, language tutorials, job searching, and dating apps, as well as crypto apps for trading, staking, launching tokens, and various games.
The launch of the Kaia mainnet and integration of mini DApps on the LINE platform highlight the growing trend of using blockchain technology in popular messaging apps, creating new opportunities for users and developers.
