In an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph, Kitboga, a well-known scambaiter, shared insights about his work and important tips for preventing scams in the crypto world.
Signs of Scams
Kitboga explained that one common tactic every scammer uses is creating a sense of urgency. 'Whether you think you've won $1 million or you think you owe $1 million... the scammer is going to make you do something right now,' warns Kitboga.
Kitboga's Personal Experience
Kitboga also emphasized the importance of staying calm and taking the time to assess the situation. He shared an example of nearly falling for a scam himself: 'The other day, we were looking at a website that was a carbon copy of a really popular coin... the only difference on the entire website was the domain,' Kitboga recalled.
Safety Recommendations
To further protect against fraudsters, Kitboga recommends segmenting funds, especially in crypto, to minimize risk. 'If you want to try something out [...] or you’re interested in minting something, don’t store all of your assets in the same place,' he advised.
Kitboga calls for caution and a rational approach when dealing with cryptocurrencies to avoid falling victim to scams.
