Japanese messaging giant LINE has announced the launch of mini-decentralized applications on its platform in partnership with Kaia DLT Foundation, a UAE-based organization supporting the Kaia blockchain.
LINE and Kaia DLT Foundation Partnership
On August 29, 2024, an announcement was made about a new initiative, part of the Kaia Wave project aimed at supporting Web3 developers. Kaia DLT Foundation expressed hope that developers will create mini-dApps specifically for LINE's large user base in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, and Indonesia. Developers will utilize Kaia’s NEXT WEB SDK to build these mini-dApps, which will be integrated into the LINE Messenger app.
Support for Web3 Developers
Young-su Ko, CEO of LINE NEXT, emphasized that the Kaia mainnet launch is critical for expanding the Asian Web3 ecosystem and increasing LINE NEXT's global presence. He noted that the Kaia Wave project provides an efficient Web3 platform and enhances user accessibility. Sangmin Seo, Chairman of the Kaia DLT Foundation, added that the Kaia ecosystem would benefit from partnerships like LINE NEXT, especially through events like the upcoming KSL 2024, showcasing efforts to popularize blockchain.
Trends and Next Steps
The announcement also noted that LINE aims to leverage the trend of integrating blockchain-based applications into messaging platforms, a concept initially pioneeted by Telegram. In 2023, Telegram introduced 'Telegram Mini Apps' and later enabled developers to integrate these apps with The Open Network (TON) blockchain. LINE's new initiative aims to follow this model and expand its blockchain offerings.
Thus, the partnership between LINE and Kaia DLT Foundation aims to develop the Web3 ecosystem in Asia and popularize blockchain-based applications through the LINE Messenger platform.
