From August 24 to 30, several major cryptocurrency firms, including Witness Chain, Polygon, Avalanche, ZkSync, and Orderly Network, suffered cyberattacks. Hackers infiltrated their Discord channels and launched phishing campaigns.

Commencement of Attacks

On August 30, Witness Chain, a blockchain-based validation project, reported its Discord channel was compromised through deceptive links. Core contributor Pankaj Agarwal warned members via his X account to avoid engaging with suspicious recovery processes linked to these attacks.

Firms' Response

Similar incidents affected other firms. The Polygon Discord channel was breached on August 24 via phishing links. Chief Security Officer Mehta Gupta immediately advised members not to click on any links. Unfortunately, one user reportedly lost $150,000 to these fraudulent schemes. Within 48 hours of the Polygon incident, both the Avalanche and zkSync Discord channels were also infiltrated.

Conclusions and Security Measures

Teams responded swiftly, regaining control of their channels and bolstering security measures. These incidents highlight the need for enhanced security protocols within crypto communities and the importance of user vigilance and rapid response by security teams.

These incidents underscore the ongoing threat of phishing attacks to cryptocurrency platforms and the necessity for enhanced precautions among users.
