MetaMask has launched a pilot payment card program allowing users to transact in crypto via EFTPOS, similar to fiat currency. This article provides a review of the card after a week's usage.
MetaMask Card Technology
The card, powered in partnership with MasterCard, is accepted wherever MasterCard is accepted. Users need to bridge funds to the Linea network, activating the card through several cryptocurrencies, including USDT, USDC, and WETH.
Setting Up the Card
The setup process was straightforward and quick. A KYC procedure was required, necessitating minimal personal details. Afterward, users bridged funds to the Linea network and set a spending limit, which was intuitive.
Using the Card in Real Life
The card works anywhere traditional cards do, but for pilot countries, it only accepts stablecoins USDT and USDC. This results in conversions using MasterCard rates, which adds a slight premium to the price at exchange.
The MetaMask card is a convenient tool for utilizing cryptocurrency in daily life. Despite small limitations and fees, its ease of use makes it appealing. Supporting more currencies could improve the product.
