The MetaMask wallet has introduced a new feature that allows users to log in using their Google or Apple ID. This move aims to simplify interactions with cryptocurrencies, especially for newcomers.
Simplifying the Login Process
Starting August 26, MetaMask has launched the option to log in using a Google account or Apple ID. Users no longer need to worry about remembering 12 recovery words; they just need to log in and set a password, making the process simpler. A mobile version is also planned to launch soon.
Maintaining Security and Privacy
MetaMask emphasizes that the wallet remains self-custodial. Neither Google nor Apple have access to the user’s recovery phrase or wallet. All data is encrypted and stored locally on the device. The technology is based on a partnership with Web3Auth, using advanced security protocols.
Additional Features of MetaMask
In addition to simplifying login, MetaMask has introduced new features for users. For instance, users can now earn interest on stablecoins like USDC, USDT, and DAI without locking up their assets. In June, a DEX API system from OKX was integrated, allowing for faster and cheaper swaps. Users are encouraged to remember the importance of security and to store their recovery phrases safely.
MetaMask continues to enhance its features, offering more convenient and secure ways of interacting with cryptocurrencies. The new social login option is designed to ease access for newcomers while ensuring that self-custody access remains secure.
