Metaplanet, a leading Japanese bitcoin treasury firm, recently announced the acquisition of an additional 103 BTC for approximately $11.7 million.
Bitcoin Acquisition
This recent purchase increased the company’s total bitcoin reserves to 18,991 BTC. Metaplanet President Simon Gerovich stated that the total expenditure for bitcoin accumulation reached $1.95 billion, averaging $102,712 per coin. He also noted that this acquisition is accompanied by a yield of 479.5% YTD as of 2025.
FTSE Japan Growth
In addition to increasing its bitcoin treasury, Metaplanet has been included in the FTSE Japan Index in September, elevating its status from small-cap to mid-cap stock. Gerovich referred to this as 'another important milestone’ in the company’s development, highlighting its growing influence.
Financial Performance
Following the announcement of the increased holdings, Metaplanet's stock rose about 5.15% in Japan, despite a 25.83% decline over the past month. Nevertheless, year-to-date, the company’s stock has increased by 144.76%, indicating strong investor confidence.
Metaplanet’s bitcoin acquisitions and its mid-cap status on the FTSE underscore the firm’s growing presence in both cryptocurrency and traditional financial markets.
