Microsoft has filed a lawsuit against a group accused of abusing its AI service, claiming theft of user credentials and development of tools to bypass safety mechanisms.
Microsoft's Allegations Against Malefactors
In its complaint, Microsoft stated that the defendants, referred to under the legal pseudonym 'Does', violated the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act as well as racketeering laws by accessing its software and servers to create harmful content.
Misuse of Azure OpenAI API Keys
Microsoft discovered illegal possession of Azure OpenAI API Keys, which were used to generate content against the company's policy. While not clear how they were obtained, Microsoft suspects theft of such keys.
Legal Actions and Security Measures
Microsoft mentioned the use of De3u to generate images, bypassing content filtering. The company got a court approval to seize a website linked to the defendants and has installed new security measures for its Azure OpenAI Service.
Microsoft remains committed to halting misuse of its services by pursuing legal actions and enhancing its protective measures.
