Arbitrum, Ethereum's largest layer 2 scaling solution, seeks to improve its ecosystem with a new dispute resolution system called the BoLD protocol.
What is the BoLD Protocol?
The BoLD protocol aims to open up Arbitrum’s validation system to everyone, removing the current reliance on a select group of validators. It ensures disputes are resolved within fixed timeframes, eliminating the potential for system abuse to delay transaction confirmations.
Key Features
One standout feature of BoLD is the censorship timeout mechanism, designed to counter sequencer censorship or outages. This mechanism handles situations where the sequencer, responsible for processing and ordering network transactions, either censors certain transactions or stops functioning.
Introducing Infura to Arbitrum Nova
While BoLD will enable permissionless validation on Arbitrum One, Arbitrum Nova will retain its permissioned model. The proposal includes adding Infura to Nova's validator whitelist to enhance security. Infura provides developers access to Ethereum nodes without running their own infrastructure.
If approved, BoLD will be deployed on Arbitrum One and Nova in February, significantly boosting the Arbitrum ecosystem by providing reliable and efficient transaction validation.
