Federal prosecutors have indicted New York City Mayor Eric Adams following corruption investigations that have triggered the retirements and resignations of several members of his administration.

The investigation began in November 2023 when FBI agents raided the home of Brianna Suggs, Adams's chief campaign fundraiser. Former New York City Fire Department officials Anthony Saccavino and Brian Cordasco were also charged with bribery and corruption for accepting more than $190,000 in bribes. Adams was accused of pressuring department members to approve the construction of a 35-story Turkish consulate in Manhattan despite safety concerns, leading to the resignation of several city officials, including the police commissioner and the mayor’s chief advocate.

In July 2023, Adams updated his annual financial disclosure after failing to report his crypto holdings. Despite the crypto market turmoil following the FTX collapse, Adams continued to advocate for cryptocurrencies, calling for the removal of New York State’s BitLicence, which he argues disadvantages both the state and city.
