The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced a new partnership with the Ministry of Youth Development and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) aimed at enhancing nationwide NIN registration.
NIMC's Partnership with Youth Organizations
NIMC has launched a program aimed at training members of the National Youth Service Corps to carry out NIN registration in local communities. This partnership targets all 774 local governments in Nigeria and seeks to implement the registration program among the youth.
Goals and Expected Outcomes of the Program
The main goal of this initiative is to ensure coverage for NIN registration among children under 16. According to NIMC, the project is set to achieve 85% coverage by December 2025, supported by improved infrastructure and public awareness campaigns.
Current Successes and Future Steps
Currently, about 120 million Nigerians have been registered in the program. NIMC aims to register an additional 67 million people. Additionally, the registration program for inmates continues to progress, with 59,786 inmates already registered.
The NIMC's program in collaboration with NYSC represents a key step towards increasing NIN registration and includes strategies aimed at reaching vulnerable populations. Reliable implementation mechanisms can significantly accelerate the process.
