OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has announced its plans to open its first office in New Delhi, India. This decision is motivated by the growing number of ChatGPT users in the country.
OpenAI's Plans in India
OpenAI aims to create new AI tools that are convenient and accessible for Indian users. The company has already started hiring a local team to improve collaboration with the government, businesses, and educational institutions. Currently, there is only one employee of OpenAI in India, Pragya Mishra.
Government Support
The Indian government supports OpenAI's decision to establish an office in New Delhi. India's technology minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, noted that this decision highlights the country's growing role in digital innovation and AI adoption. As part of the IndiaAI Mission, the government is building an ecosystem for trustworthy and inclusive AI.
Company's New Initiatives
OpenAI has also launched new projects, such as ChatGPT Go—a more affordable subscription plan—and an AI Academy in collaboration with India's Ministry of Electronics and IT. Additionally, an Education Summit is scheduled for later this month, followed by a Developer Day.
The opening of the office and the launch of new initiatives demonstrate OpenAI's commitment to developing its AI technologies in India in cooperation with local institutions and the government.
