OpenAI has announced a collaboration with the US government, offering its AI products and services at nearly zero cost for federal agencies. This initiative aligns with the newly unveiled AI Action Plan by the Trump administration.
Collaboration with Government
Sam Altman, the founder of OpenAI, stated that the 'OpenAI for Government' initiative has been launched. Under this collaboration with the US General Services Administration (GSA), all federal agencies will be able to use ChatGPT Enterprise for just $1.
Time Savings and Positive Feedback
OpenAI noted in a blog post that this move aims to reduce bureaucracy. In Pennsylvania, employees using ChatGPT saved an average of 95 minutes per day on routine tasks. In North Carolina, 85% of participants in a 12-week pilot project with the Treasury Department rated their experience positively.
New Partnerships and Competitor Offerings
In addition to OpenAI, another AI company, Anthropic, has added its product Claude to the GSA list, allowing federal agencies to access their services at pre-negotiated prices and terms. Furthermore, the US government has included OpenAI, Alphabet's Google, and Anthropic in its officially approved AI supplier list.
Thus, the OpenAI initiative 'for government' marks an important milestone in the use of AI technologies in the public sector, contributing to reduced bureaucracy and increased efficiency for civil servants.
