OpenAI's business products, including ChatGPT Enterprise, Team, and Edu, saw a 67% increase in users since April, reaching 1 million users by September 5.
OpenAI User Growth
According to a Reuters report, OpenAI's business products have grown to 1 million users, up from 600,000 in April. OpenAI continues to attract users due to its advanced language model.
Plans for New Paid Subscriptions
OpenAI is planning to introduce new higher-priced subscriptions for its upcoming large language models, such as AI Strawberry and Orion. The subscription plans could cost up to $2,000 per month. This news comes nearly a month after the launch of xAI Grok-2, a new AI assistant available for X platform users with Premium or Premium+ memberships. Despite being a relatively new company launched in July 2023, there is a belief that xAI could become a competitor to OpenAI by the end of 2024, as stated by Elon Musk at Viva Tech Paris 2024.
AI Regulation for Safety
OpenAI has voiced support for California’s AB 3211 bill, which requires watermarks in the metadata of AI-generated photos, videos, and audio clips. However, the company opposed another AI-related bill, SB 1047, which mandates AI developers to conduct safety testing on some of their models. On September 5, the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom signed the Framework Convention on AI, emphasizing human rights and democratic values in AI regulation. This is the first legally binding international treaty on AI, holding signatories accountable for any harm or discrimination caused by AI systems.
The growth in users and interest in investment highlight the increasing importance of AI technologies. The introduction of new subscriptions and regulatory measures underscores the need to balance innovation with safety.
