The U.S. government, led by U.S. Attorney Damian Williams, is seeking to sell two luxury aircraft linked to Sam Bankman-Fried to prevent financial losses. The filing with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York details the effort to address the depreciation of the two planes, a Bombardier Global and an Embrae Legacy. The aircraft were flagged for seizure in October 2023 due to their association with Bankman-Fried's criminal activities. The government plans to allocate up to $1.8 million for maintenance and $183,000 for the transfer of the Embraer Legacy. The US Marshals Service (USMS) is moving forward with the sale process after an agreement was reached with FTX and its affiliates. The Bombardier Global was taken over by the USMS in February 2023 under a warrant. Bankman-Fried was found guilty of seven felony charges in November 2023 and awaits sentencing, facing a proposed sentence of 40 to 50 years. The list of assets targeted for forfeiture includes shares in Robinhood, currencies, cryptocurrencies, and political donations made by SBF during his time at FTX. Bankman-Fried and his legal representative have not opposed the sale of the aircraft.
