At the BaseCamp event, Base network creator Jesse Pollak announced plans for the launch of a native token. The new token is expected to support decentralization and expand opportunities for builders and creators.
Token Launch on Base Network
According to Pollak, the network is in the early phases of exploring the token launch, and no specifics have been disclosed regarding timing, design, or governance. "We’re in the early phases of our exploration and don’t have any specifics to share around timing, design, or governance," Pollak stated.
Statistics and Achievements of Base
Launched in 2023, Base has become the most widely used Ethereum layer-2 blockchain. Data from Token Terminal shows that it recorded around 20.8 million monthly active addresses over the past twelve months.
Interoperability and Openness of the System
Pollak also announced the development of an open-source bridge to Solana, allowing users to move assets between the two chains and enabling developers to access a broader liquidity pool. Pollak emphasized that Base was designed to be a "bridge, not an island," adding that the goal is to strengthen the entire ecosystem by making it open and interoperable. "For a better global economy to work, we need it to be interoperable and connected."
The situation regarding the potential token launch and the development of the Base network is still forming. Further details are expected to be released in the future.
