The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Amalgamated Union of App-based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON) has announced the appointment of Rachel Ibiwoye as acting national president.
Appointment of Acting President
According to a statement from the Lagos State Council of the Union, Rachel Ibiwoye has been appointed to the position with immediate effect. This appointment came two days after David Nosa Aigbonran was formally recognized as the new national chairman, following the resignation of Adedamola Adeniran.
Support and Expectations from New Leadership
A supportive message was issued by the Rivers State Council, with Chairman Nosa Omoruyi expressing confidence in Ibiwoye's abilities to unify and strengthen internal democracy within the union. Additionally, the Lagos State Council's Public Relations Officer, Comrade Iwindoye Steven, congratulated her, describing the appointment as timely and well-deserved.
Situation with the Former AUATON President
Ibiwoye's appointment comes amid the indefinite suspension of her predecessor, Comrade David Nosa. Nosa faced multiple accusations of misconduct, including self-declaration as the permanent president, which raised significant concerns about adherence to the union's constitutional norms.
Rachel Ibiwoye's appointment indicates the AUATON's commitment to advancing the position of platform drivers in Nigeria, despite internal disputes and uncertainties.
