On August 9, Ripple executed the unlocking of one billion XRP tokens from its escrow wallet. This operation has sparked various discussions within the community.
Details of the Token Unlock
The unlocking took place through three transactions reported by Whale Alert. At the time of the transaction, the value of the unlocked tokens was approximately $3.28 million.
Use of the Unlocked Tokens
Ripple typically uses the unlocked tokens for funding on-demand liquidity, partnerships, acquisitions, and ecosystem developments. Most of the tokens released monthly are relocked into escrow, with the company using around 200 to 350 million tokens per month.
Speculation in the XRP Community
Earlier this month, speculation arose within the XRP community regarding the unlock. A total of 700 million tokens were locked at the start of the month, but no new tokens were released from escrow wallets. Some users even speculated that August 2025 might become the first month without any unlocks since the introduction of Ripple's escrow schedule in late 2017.
The unlocking of billions of Ripple's tokens continues to attract attention in the cryptocurrency community and raises various speculations about future changes in token management.
