Rise of Meme Coins: SHIB, PEPE, and the Potential of Furrever Token

May 31, 2024

The Resurgence of Meme Coins

The resurgence of meme coins has been remarkable, especially with PEPE reaching a new all-time high (ATH) and generating a 1000 percent return in a year. What about SHIB and the newcomer Furrever Token (FURR)?

The rise of meme coins is characterized by various factors, one of them being Pepe Coin (PEPE) which recently set a new all-time high (ATH). On the other hand, Shiba Inu (SHIB) continues to capture attention by maintaining its position as the second-largest meme coin in the global market according to Coinmarketcap. Meanwhile, a new meme coin, Furrever Token, currently in the presale stage, claims to have the potential to climb high in the challenging meme coin sector.

Common Factors Leading to the Rise of Meme Coins

Meme coins represent a unique sector in the crypto market with their devoted followers. Typically inspired by popular memes and internet culture, meme coins like Dogecoin (DOGE) draw inspiration from the famous Shiba Inu dog known as Kabosu from Japan, while Pepe Coin (PEPE) revolves around the iconic character Pepe the Frog created by Matt Furie.

Unlike traditional cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) which have clear use cases and technological advancements, meme coins primarily derive value through community involvement and social media hype, making them highly speculative.

This speculative nature is a key factor in the resurgence of meme coins as some meme coins even secure positions within the top 50 to 100 in the crypto market. The meme coin market itself boasts a total market capitalization equivalent to US$62.8 billion as of Friday, 31 May 2024, on Coinmarketcap.

Although born from seemingly whimsical ideas, meme coins have proven to be powerful financial instruments, driven by enthusiastic communities and viral, motive-driven marketing strategies aiming for significant returns within a relatively short time.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) Still Leading as the 2nd Largest Global Meme Coin

The rise of meme coins has become a phenomenon in its own right. SHIB, for instance, continues to hold the second position in the meme coin market based on market capitalization, trailing only behind Dogecoin (DOGE). From this perspective, SHIB appears to have successfully demonstrated its 'vision and mission' when it emerged in 2020, proclaiming to be the 'Dogecoin killer'.

In terms of utility, SHIB offers a more complex and comprehensive range compared to DOGE, including its own NFT market, DeFi, metaverse, and Layer2 network technology. Unlike DOGE, which progresses steadily by relying on low-cost transactions, partnership support, celebrity endorsements, new trade pair listings, and other factors.

Reviewing their performance over the past year, SHIB has achieved a higher return of 203 percent, while DOGE stands at 123 percent. However, both are still far from their respective all-time highs, with SHIB at US$0.00008845 (-70.68 percent) and DOGE at US$0.7376 (-78.4 percent).

Pepe Coin (PEPE) Sets New ATH, 1000 Percent Return in a Year, What's the Reason?

The recent resurgence of meme coins has gained prominence, especially as Pepe Coin (PEPE) achieved a new all-time high (ATH) on 27 May 2024, reaching around US$0.00001718. This translates to a return of over 1000 percent for PEPE in a year.

Unlike several new meme coins, PEPE quickly garnered attention and was rapidly traded on prominent crypto exchanges such as Binance, Bybit, OKX, and Kraken. This popularity positioned PEPE as the third-largest in the meme coin sector, following WIF and FLOKI.

Moreover, prior to hitting its ATH, PEPE received strong support from Coinbase as the crypto exchange was willing to introduce a new PEPE-valued trade pair for their perpetual market.

Assessing the Opportunity of Furrever Token (FURR)

The flourishing meme coin market and the current resurgence have spurred many new similar crypto projects to join in. One such project is Furrever Token (FURR). Like SHIB and PEPE, FURR also revolves around animal themes.

However, FURR distinguishes itself by focusing on cute and adorable cat themes rather than famous and viral animals. This theme is further enriched with collectible NFTs.

Operating on the BNB-20 blockchain, Furrever Token aims to create an enjoyable and engaging user experience by integrating cat-themed stickers, emojis, and visuals to transform everyday interactions within its ecosystem.

Claiming to be community-based, Furrever Token's attraction lies in its innovative features and strong early interest and support, with over US$1.1 million raised during its presale. Its roadmap includes plans for exclusive cat-themed content and further community-based initiatives, enhancing its appeal as a long-term investment.
