Russian authorities have initiated the sale of cryptocurrency confiscated from the Infraud hacker group. A total of 1,032 Bitcoin were seized, marking the largest Bitcoin confiscation in the country's history.
Commencement of Seized Bitcoin Sale
TASS news agency reported that the Russian Treasury started the process of selling seized Bitcoins, beginning with a batch worth $10 million. In total, 1,032 Bitcoins were confiscated from the Infraud hacker group.
The Marat Tambiev Case
Former Investigative Committee officer Marat Tambiev was found guilty of accepting a bribe from the Infraud group. Hundreds of Bitcoins were found on his computer and storage devices. He was sentenced to 16 years in a maximum-security penal colony.
Court Proceedings and Outcomes
The Balashikha court found Tambiev guilty and fined him 500 million rubles. His former subordinate, Kristina Lyakhovenko, was also found guilty and sentenced to 9 years. The case became the largest bribery incident involving cryptocurrency in Russia's history.
