Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, facing charges of sex trafficking, kidnapping, and racketeering, has hired attorney Alexandra Shapiro, who also represents Sam Bankman-Fried.
Diddy's New Attorney
Alexandra Shapiro is a white-collar appellate lawyer known for her success in high-profile cases. She once clerked for former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Now Shapiro is defending Combs in a substantial legal battle. Combs and Bankman-Fried ended up in the same detention center – Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center. After two judges rejected Combs' $50 million bail offer, he was placed in the same dormitory as SBF.
Shapiro's Defense of Sam Bankman-Fried
Shapiro represents SBF on appeal after he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy. Her defense strategy includes a 102-page brief filed last month, arguing that the trial judge unfairly excluded evidence that could have been beneficial to SBF. It’s unclear whether SBF recommended Shapiro to Diddy, but their shared attorney is no coincidence.
Diddy’s Life Behind Bars and Denied Bail
Prosecutors argue that releasing Diddy poses a significant risk to public safety. They claim he could tamper with witnesses or become violent. Court records show Diddy offered his Miami Star Island mansion, worth $48 million, as collateral, and additionally pledged $2 million from his mother's Miami home. However, the federal judge rejected this offer, labeling him a flight risk. The defense team proposed a house arrest option with strict conditions, including no female visitors, but this was also denied. Now Diddy remains in jail alongside SBF, under routine suicide watch.
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and Sam Bankman-Fried are currently held together in the same detention center, with their connections through attorney Alexandra Shapiro becoming stronger. Combs and his lawyer face a challenging legal battle ahead, with the outcome remaining uncertain.
