The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced a series of roundtables to engage with stakeholders regarding cryptocurrency regulation, focusing on small companies.
Announcement of SEC Roundtables
The SEC has stated that its Crypto Task Force will hold nationwide roundtables to allow broader access for participants to engage with the commission. These events will be coordinated by Commissioner Hester Peirce.
Project Crypto Initiative
Under the new initiative called Project Crypto introduced by SEC Chair Paul Atkins, a new regulatory approach to crypto assets will be developed. The program aims to clarify uncertainties regarding token classification and securities offerings. A key aspect is transitioning part of the financial system onto blockchain to enhance transparency.
Expectations from the Roundtables
The roundtables will take place from August 4 to December in cities like Berkeley, Boston, and New York. The focus will be on small startups with less than 10 employees and less than two years in operation. The commission aims to hear from builders and those who have not had the opportunity to participate in previous events.
The SEC roundtables provide an opportunity for small crypto companies to contribute to the regulatory discussion, which could have a significant impact on the future of the industry.
