Secure Hardware Wallet and Onboarding Service by Trezor

Renowned for its quality crypto hardware wallets, Trezor has recently unveiled three innovative products at BTC Prague 2024. These new additions aim to empower users with enhanced security in managing digital assets. The lineup includes the Trezor Safe 5 hardware wallet, a dedicated bitcoin version, and the specialized 'Trezor Expert' onboarding service.

Key Highlights

  • Trezor launched the Trezor Safe 5 hardware wallet, a bitcoin-only version, and the 'Trezor Expert' onboarding service.

Enhanced Security

The latest devices promise a secure ecosystem for storing, managing, and utilizing a wide range of cryptocurrencies using the Trezor Suite desktop and mobile applications. Featuring an improved 20-word backup process, the devices incorporate a larger color touchscreen with haptic feedback and a secure element designed to safeguard critical information and perform cryptographic tasks.

Unlike its competitor Ledger, Trezor devices are open-source, fostering community audits and quicker vulnerability fixes. However, this openness may pose a security risk if the device is compromised. The Trezor Safe 5 secure element boasts an EAL 6+ certification, indicating its resilience against advanced attacks.

The upgraded backup process enables users to transition to a multi-share backup model, reducing the risk of a single point of failure. By employing Shamir's secret sharing, the master secret key is divided into unique shares, ensuring access to assets even if some shares are lost.

Additional Enhancements

To protect wallet backup phrases from potential hazards, Trezor plans to introduce a 20-word version of its Trezor Keep Metal solution. Additionally, legacy backup processes will continue to be supported.

CEO Matěj Žák acknowledged the prevalent lack of trust among crypto enthusiasts towards exchanges and emphasized the importance of secure asset management. The Trezor Safe 5 caters to users seeking daily utility, top-notch security, and ease of use in hardware wallets.

Priced at $169, the Trezor Safe 5 is available for pre-order, with Bitcoin-only and Black Graphite variants scheduled for shipment in July. Green Beryl and Violet Ore models are expected to launch by mid-August. This release expands Trezor's product range following the success of the Trezor Safe 3 for entry-level crypto users.

In addition to the hardware launch, Trezor unveiled the Trezor Expert service, offering personalized onboarding sessions at $99. These tailored sessions aim to equip customers with expert knowledge for setting up crypto cold-storage solutions and becoming proficient in self-custody practices, emphasizing data privacy and security.
