Medical technology company Semler Scientific has announced its purchase of $5 million worth of Bitcoin, significantly increasing its cryptocurrency holdings.

On August 26, 2024, Semler Scientific purchased 83 Bitcoins for $5 million. Earlier in May 2024, the company started its Bitcoin acquisitions by investing $40 million to purchase 581 Bitcoins. Since then, it has made several significant investments, including $17 million for 247 Bitcoins in June and $6 million for 101 Bitcoins in early August. As a result, Semler has accumulated a total of 1,012 Bitcoins, valued at $68 million.
The Rising Tide of Institutional Adoption
Semler Scientific's accumulation of Bitcoin aligns with a broader trend of increased institutional investment in cryptocurrency. This trend was spearheaded by MicroStrategy, which holds over 225,000 Bitcoins. According to Eric Semler, the Chairman of Semler Scientific, institutions have already invested more than 20% in Bitcoin ETFs, indicating growing institutional trust in Bitcoin.

Semler Scientific adopts a conservative approach to Bitcoin investments, guided by prudent financial management strategies. The company funds its Bitcoin purchases through cash generated from operations and capital from its equity program.
