Solana has introduced its new web3 smartphone 'Seeker,' which will be the successor to last year's Saga model. The new smartphone will be half the price and offer an enhanced web3 experience.

Lessons from the Past

The release of the Saga smartphone last May received mixed reviews from the tech and crypto community. Despite this, sales of the device saw a significant increase later in the year, driven by the popularity of the memecoin Bonk (BONK). On the first day of sales, over 30,000 units were sold.

What is Seeker?

Seeker is designed to be web3-focused, with improved integration of hardware and software. Solana Labs claims that this model is lighter, brighter, and equipped with better cameras and longer battery life. The core feature of Seeker is the Seed Vault, a security measure designed to protect users' assets. In partnership with Solflare, the Seed Vault Wallet, a mobile-first self-custody wallet, has been introduced.

Focus on Maximizing Crypto Utility

Seeker does not directly compete with giants like Apple and Samsung but focuses on maximizing crypto utility in a mobile format. The upgraded hardware, including a higher-quality screen and better cameras, aims to address the shortcomings of the previous model. Seeker will also serve as a platform for decentralized applications (DApp), including DePIN apps like Helium and Infield.

Solana's Seeker represents a significant step forward in making web3 and cryptocurrency technologies more accessible, enhancing user experience, and offering new opportunities for users and developers.
