The Solana ecosystem is making a leap into hardware with the launch of its first handheld gaming console. The Play Solana project announced the upcoming shipment of the Play Solana Gen 1 device.
New Handheld Console
The Play Solana Gen 1 (PSG1) will start shipping on October 6. It features gaming-ready specs, including an octa-core ARM processor, 8 gigabytes of RAM, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a touch LCD display. The device also includes a built-in hardware wallet and fingerprint authentication, allowing users to securely store crypto assets while gaming.
Expansion of the Solana Ecosystem
The launch comes as the Solana ecosystem continues to introduce consumer-facing products. Earlier, in 2022, the Saga smartphone was launched, which provided access to Web3 tools like a Seed Vault and a specialized DApp store. In 2023, the smartphone experienced a surge in demand, with resale prices reaching up to $5,000.
Trends in the Web3 Gaming Device Market
In addition to Play Solana, the Sui blockchain has also announced its own handheld gaming devices. Mysten Labs, the creator of Sui, plans to launch the SuiPlay0X1 in the first half of 2025, highlighting the growing interest in mobile gaming devices within the Web3 ecosystem.
The launch of the Play Solana Gen 1 underscores Solana's commitment to innovation in hardware and the establishment of new standards in Web3 gaming devices.
