Solana Labs has introduced its new blockchain smartphone Seeker, promising significant improvements over its predecessor, Saga.

Why Sirin Labs Failed?

Sirin Labs was one of the pioneers in releasing a blockchain-based smartphone, Finney, in 2018. The device offered unique features like a cold storage wallet for cryptocurrencies and the ability to exchange tokens directly through the device. However, a price of $999 and a narrow focus on features for crypto enthusiasts failed to attract a broader consumer base. Financial sales results were below expectations, forcing the company to lay off part of its staff and shift focus to software development.

Saga’s History of Failures

Solana Labs' first phone, Saga, also failed to achieve market success. With an initial plan to sell between 25,000 and 50,000 units, actual sales were around 24,000 units. Saga was mainly focused on the crypto community and failed to offer sufficient value for a wider audience.

New Hopes for the Blockchain Smartphone

Solana Labs' Seeker promises significant improvements in both hardware and blockchain features. It boasts an improved battery, up to 108 MP camera, 128 GB internal storage, and 8 GB RAM. The main advantage is an integrated crypto wallet, Seed Vault integration, AI, and an independent app store, Dapp Store. However, to compete with market leaders like Apple and Samsung, Seeker must offer not just blockchain technologies, but also compelling everyday features.

Despite challenges, Solana Seeker has a chance to succeed among tech-savvy and crypto users. With a current price of $450 and over 140,000 pre-orders, there is potential for broader adoption of blockchain technologies in mobile devices.
