Solana Mobile has commenced shipments of its second-generation mobile device, Seeker, in over 50 countries. The smartphone features numerous enhancements and functionality aimed at crypto enthusiasts.
Enhancements of the Second Generation Seeker
The Seeker smartphone, which has received over 150,000 pre-orders, will come equipped with upgraded technology, a mobile-native crypto wallet, and a decentralized app store. Solana Mobile's general manager, Emmett Hollyer, stated that the Seeker has hardware improvements across the board compared to the first-generation Saga, emphasizing that what truly sets Seeker apart are its onchain features.
TEEPIN Architecture for Decentralization and Security
With the new Seeker capabilities, Solana Mobile aims to decentralize the economy and incentives on the device. The mechanism behind this is a technology known as TEEPIN, or the 'Trusted Execution Environment Platform Infrastructure Network.' TEEPIN is a three-layer architecture that decentralizes various aspects of the device, from access to the device to app distribution. Hollyer also highlighted an additional security feature afforded by TEEPIN through cryptographic attestation, which confirms that the device is running legitimate software.
Apple Softens App-Store Rules
Apple, with a market capitalization of $3 trillion, has been at the center of an antitrust controversy where it allegedly impeded developers’ ability to communicate with users. According to a recent court ruling, crypto app developers can now link to collections and use external payment systems without incurring additional fees. This significant change also impacts centralized app stores that can block certain apps depending on legal findings.
The second generation of the Seeker smartphone by Solana Mobile marks a step toward enhancing the mobile experience for crypto enthusiasts and developers, offering new features and a more secure architecture.
