Stripe, in partnership with the venture capital firm Paradigm, is set to develop a new blockchain named Tempo focused on payment processing and compatible with the Solidity programming language.
Development of Tempo
According to reports from Fortune, Stripe is collaborating with Paradigm to develop the Tempo blockchain. The new protocol aims to facilitate payment processing and will be compatible with the Solidity programming language. Currently, the project team consists of five individuals who are working in secrecy. Representatives from Stripe and Paradigm declined to comment on the matter.
Recent Stripe Acquisitions
The launch of Tempo aligns well with Stripe's recent acquisitions in the crypto sector. In October 2024, the company acquired the stablecoin infrastructure platform Bridge for $1.1 billion. In June 2025, it purchased crypto wallet developer Privy. These acquisitions reinforce Stripe's capabilities in providing clients with tools for integrating and issuing stablecoins, as well as custodial solutions.
Future of Tempo and its Market Impact
Experts suggest that the new blockchain will enable Stripe to gain control over the infrastructure that processes transactions. Interest in stablecoins has surged following the enactment of the GENIUS Act in the United States, which establishes federal standards for the cryptocurrency industry. Patrick Collison, co-founder of Stripe, has stated that businesses are increasingly viewing crypto assets as a payment instrument due to technological maturity.
The launch of the Tempo blockchain could strengthen Stripe's position in the corporate crypto payment sector, despite the lack of official information regarding a potential issuance of its own token.
