T2mobile has signed an agreement with Huawei to improve its network as part of its rebranding process.
Goals of Modernization and Partnership
T2mobile, formerly known as 9Mobile, has signed a multi-million dollar agreement with Huawei for network modernization. The company's CEO, Obafemi Banigbe, noted that this deal represents a significant step in their growth process. The partnership with Huawei will enable T2mobile to provide reliable services in both the short and long term.
"This agreement is more than a contract; it is a catalyst. Huawei has been a trusted partner throughout our journey, and this next chapter reaffirms our shared commitment to innovation, reliability, and excellence. With Huawei by our side, we're not just upgrading our network, we're future-proofing it," he explained.
Subscriber Growth
According to data from the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), T2mobile recorded its first subscriber gain in two years, with an increase of 290,601 in July 2025. This growth is attributed to the rebranding and the recent national roaming agreement with MTN Nigeria. Despite this, T2mobile still holds the smallest subscriber base among major Nigerian operators, with 2,727,594 and 1.61% market share.
Network Challenges and Issues
Despite positive trends, T2mobile faces challenges related to network outages caused by vandalism of telecom infrastructure and fiber cuts. For instance, the company recently announced temporary service disruptions affecting its data services, highlighting the necessity for prompt response to network issues.
The agreement with Huawei and recent increases in subscriber numbers showcase T2mobile's strategic plans to restore its position in the market. However, the company must address ongoing challenges to ensure the reliability of its services.
