Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced a series of changes aimed at improving user security on the platform.
Media Upload Restrictions
On September 6, Pavel Durov revealed that media uploads to Telegram’s blogging platform 'Telegraph' would be disabled. Durov explained that this feature was 'misused' by malicious actors, despite the vast majority of Telegram’s community not abusing it. However, he noted that '0.001% involved in illicit activities' pose a disproportionate risk to lawful users.
Geolocation Disabling
The founder also announced that individual geolocation tracking would be abandoned for a 'businesses nearby' option. Durov claimed that this personal geolocation feature was scarcely used by Telegram users.
Durov's Statement
Pavel Durov emphasized that this year, Telegram is committed to turning its content moderation system into a source of praise rather than criticism.
These steps are being taken to enhance the safety and protection of Telegram users from potential threats.
